82nd Anniversary of the Battle of Monte Casino

On May 18, 2026 we celebrate the 82nd anniversary of the Battle of Monte Cassino – on this day, we honor the courage and sacrifice of the soldiers of the Polish II Corps who fought under the command of General Władysław Anders. Between May and June 1944, Polish troops played a decisive role in one of the most hard-fought and symbolic battles of the Second World War, ultimately raising the Polish flag over the ruins of Monte Cassino. Their victory came at a tremendous cost, but it became a lasting symbol of resilience, hope, and the unwavering fight for freedom. Today, we remember all those who gave their lives in battle, and we preserve their legacy within our collections and archives.
