Who is it
The Main Committee for the Pułaski Parade organizes the largest annual gathering of Polonia in the United States – the Pułaski Parade, which has been taking place on Fifth Avenue in New York since 1937. The committee was founded a year earlier, in 1936, and has been responsible for the parade, mass at St. Patrick's Cathedral, parade breakfast, and annual banquet ever since.
How it works
It is a federation of member organizations and local committees from New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts. The committee does not employ anyone – the entire parade, in which over a hundred units participate and a hundred and fifty buses arrive, is organized by volunteers.
Meetings usually take place on the third Thursday of the month, except for February and December, and rotate among member parishes and institutions in three states. The Grand Marshal of the parade is elected by members in November – almost a year before the march.
Membership
The membership fee starts at 20 dollars per year for an individual and 50 dollars for an organization. A new individual member needs a recommendation from a current member, and the application is considered by the membership committee.
