Event Description

The Polish Museum of America was delighted to welcome Carla Stickler, granddaughter of comic artist Julian S. Krupa, along with her partner Adam, son Sydney, and father-in-law Paul Pasulka for a special visit to the Museum. There is something truly meaningful about seeing multiple generations of a family reconnect with their history. We have already had the pleasure of welcoming Julian Krupa’s daughter, Mary Ann Stickler-Krupa, and now his granddaughter and great-grandson, each seeking to learn more about his remarkable artistic legacy. Carla and her family had the opportunity to view Julian S. Krupa’s original comic artwork from our collection, including the beloved Przygody Ryszarda (1936), and to experience firsthand the work that continues to tell his story nearly a century later. It was a genuine pleasure to give them a tour of the Museum, and we are so grateful for their enthusiasm, thoughtful questions, and heartfelt connection to Julian's life and work. We also fondly remember the visit of Mary Ann Stickler-Krupa and her husband, during which she was reunited with her father's original comic strips that she generously donated to the PMA collection in 2014. Her generosity has ensured that Julian S. Krupa's pioneering work remains preserved for future generations of visitors, researchers, and – his own family. We are also proud to have collaborated with the YouTube channel Otwarte Komiksy and Mr. Tomasz Kołodziejczak on the documentary episode AMAZING STORY, CZYLI ŻYCIE JULIANA S. KRUPY. The PMA was pleased to contribute materials from our collection and an interview with PMA Director Małgorzata Kot, highlighting Julian’s original comic strips and their significance in the history of Polish comics. If you haven't seen it yet, we warmly encourage you to watch the documentary and discover the fascinating story of one of Poland’s earliest comic book creators: AMAZING STORY: THE LIFE OF JULIAN S. KRUPA To Carla and her wonderful family – thank you for spending the day with us. It was a joy to share Julian S. Krupa’s legacy with you, and we look forward to welcoming you back to the Polish Museum of America in the future!
