82nd Anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising (1944)

On August 1, 1944, at 5:00 p.m., known as the historic "W Hour", the Warsaw Uprising began. For 63 days, soldiers of the Polish Home Army, supported by thousands of civilians, fought heroically against German occupation in one of the largest resistance efforts of World War II. Though the Uprising ended in tragedy, its legacy remains a lasting symbol of courage, sacrifice, and the unyielding desire for freedom. Today, the Polish Museum of America honors the memory of all those who fought and those who gave their lives for a free Poland. We also recognize our Honorary Life Member, Tadeusz Gubała, a veteran of the Uprising who has visited the Museum on many occasions, and actively participated in many events relating to the Warsaw Uprising. His firsthand experiences and lifelong dedication to preserving the memory of those events continue to inspire our community.
