Event Description

On Saturday, October 3rd, a special poetry meeting took place at MPA. P. Ginger Wolnik, the granddaughter of poet Bronisława Wolnik, inherited a diary with newspaper clippings from her grandmother. Unfortunately, she had to find someone who could translate the content of the diary before she could get to know her grandmother better. The beautiful translations of Joanna Radwańska-Williams fully captured the depth and longing for the homeland left behind. Selected poems by Bronisława Wolnik were read in Polish by Maria Zakrzewska and then in English by the translator. Ginger Wolnik shared her journey of discovering her grandmother and her roots and family in Poland. The meeting was enriched with a song written by Bronisława Wolnik, performed by Ola Podowska-Watson and Jurek Jabłoński. An interesting and lively discussion concluded this engaging author's meeting organized in cooperation with the Illinois branch of the Kosciuszko Foundation. Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to this project!
