Event Description

The Kosciuszko Foundation proudly congratulates Prof. Maria Siemionow, an Honorary Trustee of the KF and a distinguished member of the Foundation’s Collegium of Eminent Scientists, on receiving the prestigious Medawar Prize from The Transplantation Society. This extraordinary honor recognizes Prof. Siemionow’s outstanding contributions to transplantation and medicine and represents a remarkable milestone for Polish science on the international stage. A Historic Achievement in Transplantation Named after Sir Peter Medawar, Nobel Prize Laureate and co-founder of The Transplantation Society, the Medawar Prize is widely recognized as the world’s highest dedicated award for outstanding contributions to the field of transplantation. The prize has been awarded at every biennial Congress of The Transplantation Society since 1990. With its exceptional prestige and international influence, the Medawar Prize honors investigators whose contributions have had a profound and lasting impact on the field of organ transplantation. It is considered one of the most distinguished international honors for scientific achievement. Since its inception, the Medawar Prize has been awarded to 40 distinguished recipients. Prof. Siemionow is the first Polish scientist and only the third woman to receive this exceptional honor, making her recognition a truly historic achievement. Her selection is a testament to the significance of her contributions to transplantation science and medicine and brings particular pride to the Polish and Polish-American scientific communities. Prof. Maria Siemionow received the Medawar Prize during the 31st International Congress of The Transplantation Society, which took place September 20-23, 2026 in Sydney, Australia.
