Bilingual Poetry Reading with the Poetry of Rediscovered Poet Bronisława Wolnik
A poetry reading with the poetry of newly discovered poet Bronisława Wolnik, organized by the Polish Museum of America and the Illinois Chapter of the Kosciuszko Foundation.
Event Description
On Saturday, October 3rd, a special poetry event took place at the PMA. Ginger Wolnik, granddaughter of poet Bronisława Wolnik, inherited a diary with newspaper clippings from her grandmother. Unfortunately, she had to find someone who could translate the contents of the diary before she could get to know her grandmother better. The beautiful translations of Joanna Radwańska-Williams fully captured the depth and longing for the homeland left behind. Selected poems by Bronisława Wolnik were read in Polish by Maria Zakrzewska and then in English by the translator. Ginger Wolnik shared her journey of discovering her grandmother and her roots in Poland. The event was enriched with a song written by Bronisława Wolnik, performed by Ola Podowska-Watson and Jurek Jabłoński. An engaging and lively discussion concluded this interesting poetry reading, organized in cooperation with the Illinois Chapter of the Kosciuszko Foundation. Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to this project!
