🐛 Bug Blaster

← All games

Play Bug Blaster online for free — a classic retro pixel-art arcade fixed shooter. A long centipede crawls onto a field full of mushrooms and marches from edge to edge, dropping one row closer to your ship every time it hits a mushroom or a wall. You fire in rapid bursts (one bullet every 0.2 seconds, several airborne at once): a hit segment turns into a mushroom and the centipede SPLITS into two independent chains! The head is worth 100 points, a body segment 10. The field also hosts a mushroom-eating spider (300–900 points — the closer it gets, the more), a mushroom-planting flea (200) and a scorpion that poisons mushrooms purple (1000) — a poisoned mushroom makes the centipede dive straight down! Steer with the arrow keys or WASD (4-way movement in the bottom zone), with the mouse, or by dragging your finger on a phone. Your best score is saved in your browser.

How to play

  • Move the ship with the arrow keys or WASD — in 4 directions, but only inside the bottom zone of the board. Shoot with the space bar (hold it for rapid fire). You can also steer with the mouse (move it over the board, hold the button for a burst) or drag your finger on a phone — holding your finger fires, and there is a big fire button under the board.
  • The centipede marches horizontally and drops one row every time it hits a mushroom or a screen edge, reversing direction. A hit segment scores 10 points (the head a full 100!), leaves a mushroom behind and splits the centipede into two independent chains — the rear part grows a new head and marches the opposite way.
  • Mushrooms take 4 hits to destroy (1 point for the kill) and darken with every hit. The more mushrooms, the more often the centipede turns downward — sometimes it pays to dig yourself a corridor.
  • The spider zigzags through the lower part of the board eating mushrooms — shooting it scores 300, 600 or 900 points, the closer it was to you, the more. The flea drops straight down planting new mushrooms whenever the lower field runs sparse (200 points). Touching the centipede, the spider or the flea costs a life!
  • From level 2 a scorpion crosses the middle of the board (1000 points), poisoning the mushrooms it passes purple. A centipede that runs into a poisoned mushroom dives straight down — straight at you!
  • You have 3 lives. After losing one, the mushroom field partially regrows (damaged mushrooms heal, poison is cleansed). Shoot down every segment to advance to the next level — the centipede gets faster and the field denser. Pause: the P key or Escape.
