Private Treatment and Health Check-Up During Vacation in Poland: Dentist, Tests, Prices, and Doctor Verification (2026)

Real prices for 2026 from official price lists: specialist 330–360 PLN, health check-up package from 319 PLN, crown from ~2000 PLN, implant with crown 5000–7300 PLN – compared to prices in the USA. How to plan treatment in 2–3 weeks (implants = two trips), verify doctors (NIL register) and clinics (RPWDL), settle with HSA, and be honest about guarantees and complications upon return.

Two weeks of vacation with family and, in the meantime: health check-up, overdue dentist visit, cardiologist "because in America it's not worth talking about prices." This is a classic of Polish diaspora vacations – and it has solid economic foundations: a private visit to a specialist in Poland costs as much as a copay in an American doctor's office, and a dental crown – one-third the price in New Jersey. This guide shows real prices for 2026 (from official price lists, not legends), how to plan dental treatment in a two- to three-week window, how to verify a doctor and clinic in official registers, how to settle Polish bills with an American HSA – and what to honestly remember when returning across the ocean with a new crown (or complication).

Context 2026: private medicine in Poland is increasing in price by double digits (WTW analysts estimate medical cost increases of about 14–15% annually in 2025–2026, nearly twice the European average), and the average waiting time for services in NFZ has reached a record 4.2 months – hence the boom: private health insurance now covers 5.4 million Poles. For those earning in dollars, the bill is still very favorable – savings of 50–70% on dentistry are realistic.

How Much Does Private Treatment Cost in Poland (2026)

Prices from official price lists of large networks in Warsaw (smaller cities and practices are usually cheaper):

ServiceApproximate Price
Visit to an internistfrom 150 PLN
Cardiologist / orthopedist / dermatologist / gynecologist330–360 PLN (teleconsultation 230–260 PLN)
Abdominal or chest ultrasoundabout 330 PLN
Complete blood count / TSH (laboratory, without referral)17–30 PLN / 29–52 PLN
Health check-up package (dozens of tests)319–399 PLN (extended about 830 PLN)
Magnetic resonance imaging (one area)from about 400 to about 900 PLN
Cataract surgery (standard lens, per eye)3,000–6,000 PLN

Private appointments are usually days, not months – you can check specific availability on ZnanyLekarz.pl (the largest database, about 146,000 doctors; remember that it is a commercial platform – treat reviews as indicative). For a 2–4 week stay, it usually does not pay to buy a medical subscription (Medicover packages from about 105 PLN/month target permanent residents) – paying for individual visits is simpler.

Dentistry: The Crown Discipline of Medical Tourism

Prices for 2026 from the price lists of the Medicover Dentistry network and a Krakow clinic focused on foreign patients (Indexmedica), compared with typical American prices without insurance:

ProcedurePolandUSA (without insurance)
Filling (1 surface)from about 330 PLNusually $150–450
Root canal treatment under a microscopefrom about 900–1050 PLNabout $700–1600
Porcelain crown on metalfrom about 2000 PLN$800–3000
Full ceramic / zirconia crown2300–3200 PLN
Implant (just the post)from about 2800–3300 PLN$3000–6700 (implant + crown)
Implant with crown (total)about 5000–7300 PLN
Hygienization (scaling, sandblasting)170–400 PLN$100–300

The Reality of Two Trips: implantology cannot be completed in one vacation – after implant placement, the bone typically fuses with it over 3–7 months, and only then is the final crown placed. In 2–3 weeks, you can realistically do: hygienization, fillings, root canal treatments, crowns, and bridges (many clinics have their own prosthetic laboratories) and implant placement – you will need to fly back for the crown on the implant. It is also unfair to omit guarantees: clinics usually provide 5 years for implants and 2–3 years for crowns/fillings, but on the condition of check-ups and hygienization every 6–12 months at the same clinic – which you cannot fulfill from Chicago. Establish in writing how the clinic treats the guarantee for patients from overseas, and take a complete set of documentation (X-ray images, material specifications) for your dentist in the USA.

How to Verify a Doctor and Clinic (Official Registers)

Check the doctor in the Central Register of Doctors

Public register of the Supreme Medical Chamber (rejestr.nil.org.pl): you can confirm the right to practice (PWZ number) and specialization. Beware of hollow titles: “specialist in aesthetic medicine” does not exist as a specialization recognized by the Ministry of Health – it is an unregulated area where some individuals without medical qualifications also operate.

Check the facility in RPWDL

Register of Entities Performing Medical Activities (rpwdl2.ezdrowie.gov.pl) – every legal clinic, hospital, and practice must be listed. No entry = avoid it like the plague.

Request a treatment plan and price list in writing

Reputable clinics (especially those focused on foreign patients) typically provide a written treatment plan with pricing before starting. Medical services aimed at health protection are exempt from VAT – purely aesthetic procedures are not (23%), which can lead to "surprises" in pricing.

Invoices, HSA, and Documentation for Doctors in the USA

  • HSA/FSA: American regulations (IRS Publication 502) do not geographically limit "medical costs" – treatment and dentistry in Poland generally qualify for reimbursement from HSA/FSA. Exception: medications purchased abroad generally do not qualify. Always take personalized invoices for each service (ask at registration) and keep payment confirmations.
  • Results for doctors in the USA: laboratory networks (e.g., Diagnostyka) have result portals available in English; ask for imaging study descriptions in English before the examination – they are not standard everywhere. You can also find results and discharge summaries in IKP (details in the guide on e-prescriptions and IKP).
  • Continuity of care: inform your doctor in the USA about planned procedures in Poland and bring a complete set of documentation – this shortens discussions and facilitates potential treatment of complications.

Honest About Risks

  • Complications after returning are your biggest real cost: corrections in the USA are charged at American prices, and a return flight to Poland is not always possible. Leave a time margin in your treatment plan for a check-up before departure.
  • Medical Events Compensation Fund (benefits 2,309–230,821 PLN without proving fault) covers only events in hospitals under services financed by NFZ – private and commercial treatment is excluded. In a private clinic, your path is to file a complaint, the entity's liability insurer, or civil court – which is why a written agreement and documentation are so important.
  • The EU cross-border directive does not apply to residents of the USA – reimbursements for treatment costs in the EU are available only to individuals insured in member states, not guests from overseas.
  • If a sudden health issue arises during your stay – the rules and costs are described in the guide on sudden emergencies during a visit to Poland, and the issue of lack of insurance is covered in the guide on NFZ for those living abroad.

Health check-up plan for a 2-week vacation: (1) book online from the USA: blood test package (day 1–2, without referral), dentist (hygienization + check-up, day 2–3, to leave time for treatment), specialists as needed (day 3–7); (2) laboratory results are usually available the next day – plan interpretative visits in the second week; (3) at the end of your stay, a follow-up visit to the dentist; (4) keep all invoices in a folder – for HSA and your own documentation; (5) pick up medications prescribed on-site before departure – you cannot fill a Polish prescription in the USA.
