A Polish school close to home, Mass in Polish for visiting grandparents, and ideas for a family weekend are three different needs. We have gathered starting points in Chicago and northern New Jersey, with addresses, official websites, and maps. In addition to the list of places, you will find questions for the school, short outing plans, and how to check current hours to avoid going to the office address instead of the class location.
Verification of published sources: October 27, 2026. This is an editorial selection based on the websites of institutions and managers, not a complete catalog or quality ranking. We have not confirmed locations by phone or during visits. Hours, fees, recruitment, entries, and availability may change – check the organizer's website before you go.
Two Maps: Chicago and New Jersey
Open the Chicago map or the New Jersey map. Choose a region and type of place, then a specific point. You can open directions in Google Maps. The addresses and sources below remain accessible even without an embedded map.
The map indicates a published address or landmark. In a large park, choose the correct parking or entrance on the manager's website. The school may rent rooms in a different building than the organizer's office. Do not automatically treat the first navigation result as the correct entrance with a stroller.
Chicago: Parishes and Polish School
| Place | Address from Source | Reason to Visit | Source and Directions |
|---|---|---|---|
| St. Hyacinth Basilica | 3635 W. George Street, Chicago, IL 60618 | Information about liturgy in Polish and parish life | Official website; map |
| St. Constance Parish | 5843 W. Strong Street, Chicago, IL 60630 | Parish contact and checking the current program | Parish contact; map |
| St. Maximilian Kolbe Polish School | 5841 W. Strong Street, Chicago, IL 60630 | Questions about Polish supplementary education and the appropriate group | School website; map |
Do you see the difference between 5841 and 5843 W. Strong? This is a good example of why it is important to separate parish contact and school address. The English name of the Catholic day school does not confirm that it refers to Polish supplementary classes. The Kolbe School Chicago website provides its own name and address; before enrolling, check the current schedule and location of the specific group.
Masses in Polish at St. Hyacinth
The published schedule of the basilica lists Sunday Masses in Polish at 6:00, 9:00, and 12:30, and Saturday evening Mass in Polish at 19:00. This is the state of the website on the verification date; holidays, celebrations, and announcements may change the schedule. Check the latest bulletin before you go and do not transfer these hours to another parish.
Chicago: Culture and Outing with a Child
| Place | Address | What to Plan | Official Starting Point |
|---|---|---|---|
| Polish Museum of America | 984 N. Milwaukee Avenue, Chicago, IL 60642 | Family encounter with Polish and Polish-American history; choose a few exhibits instead of a full day of touring | Visitor guidelines; map |
| Garfield Park Conservatory | 300 N. Central Park Avenue, Chicago, IL 60624 | Botanical outing, reservation, and checking entry rules | Chicago Park District; reservations and visit; map |
PMA publishes hours on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with the last entry at 3:15 PM. On the verification day, the standard adult ticket was $17, senior or student $12, member $10. Before you go, confirm the child's category and current price; we do not assume free admission based on the absence of a category in the short description. The museum restricts bringing food and large bags, so plan a snack outside the exhibit.
At Garfield Park Conservatory, check current reservations, rules for residents and non-residents of Chicago, and selected events. The Chicago Park District informs about entry systems and fees for non-residents. Do not rely on old general advice of "always free, no reservation required." The children's garden underwent changes in 2026, but the availability of specific spaces is best confirmed on the current page.
New Jersey: Parishes and Polish Schools
| Place | Address | How It Can Help | Source and Map |
|---|---|---|---|
| Holy Rosary / Diocesan Sanctuary of St. John Paul II, Passaic | 6 Wall Street, Passaic, NJ 07055 | Polish parish and contact regarding the local school | Parish; map |
| Bł. Jerzy Popiełuszko Polish Supplementary School, Passaic | Contact at 6 Wall Street, Passaic, NJ 07055 | Enrollment, appropriate class, and language program | School contact; school section |
| St. Stanislaus Kostka R.C. Church, Garfield | 184 Ray Street, Garfield, NJ 07026 | Check liturgy, bulletin, and parish activities | Official website; map |
For Passaic, we provide the published school contact; confirm the lesson location for a specific group with the institution. Do not treat a visit to the office as a guaranteed meeting with the principal or automatic enrollment of the child.
Example of School Fees, Not a Promise of Current Location
Announcement of enrollment for Passaic for 2026/2027 states that for the Polish school, the fee is $425 for one child, $750 for two, and $1000 for three, with religious fees presented separately. The announced enrollment period ended on August 17; in October, you need to inquire about the possibility of late enrollment, available spots, and applicable fees. Do not combine school fees with religious fees without confirmation.
New Jersey: Two Different Outdoor Ideas
| Place | Starting Point | How to Plan Your Visit |
|---|---|---|
| Liberty State Park, Jersey City | 200 Morris Pesin Drive as the published address of the park | Choose a specific part of the park and check the map, parking, weather, and announcements. NJDEP; map |
| Paterson Great Falls National Historical Park | Main parking: 72 McBride Avenue Extension, Paterson; NPS also provides coordinates 40.91533, −74.17992 | Check current closures, weather, and available amenities. NPS: practical information; map |
Liberty State Park is a vast area, so the general address does not correspond to every attraction and entrance. Plan your own short outing with a child around one part, using the manager's website and maps. Ferries, separate attractions, and other services do not become free just because you are visiting the park.
NPS states that entry to Paterson Great Falls is free, but nearby municipal parking may charge fees. It also warns about seasonal restrictions and the lack of permanent indoor amenities. Information about restrooms on the site requires current verification – do not plan a small child's stay based on the assumption that a visitor center is always available. At the waterfall, stick to designated paths and barriers.
How to Choose a Polish School: Compare Fit
A Saturday or Friday school is usually supplementary education and does not automatically replace mandatory day school. Do not choose solely based on distance or the name of the patron. The level of the Polish child, organization of groups, realistic travel time, and whether the family can regularly attend matter.
- How is the level of Polish assessed: age, reading, writing, and comprehension?
- Are children starting to speak Polish accepted, and what support is available?
- Where exactly do lessons for a specific class take place?
- Are classes on Friday, Saturday, or in several variants?
- What does the fee include, and what is paid separately: books, events, exams?
- Are there duties or other tasks for parents?
- What are the rules for picking up the child, absences, resignations, and refunds?
- How does the school communicate educational needs and collaborate with the family?
- Can you talk before enrollment or schedule a visit according to the institution's rules?
If the child has an IEP or 504 plan in day school, do not automatically assume the same implementation in an independent supplementary institution. Discuss needs, scope of possibilities, and how to convey necessary information with respect for privacy. The basics of the system are explained in our IEP and 504 guide.
Ready Message to a Polish School
Hello, we are looking for Polish classes for a child aged [age], attending grade [grade]. At home, we use [languages]. The child understands Polish [short description], speaks [description], reads and writes [description]. Please provide information about the appropriate group, current locations, dates, exact address of classes, and total fees. We would also like to know the rules for joining during the year, materials, and parental responsibilities. Please contact us in a way that is convenient for you.
Do not send full health documentation or the child's Social Security number in the first message. First, determine what information is needed and a safe way to convey it.
Four Family Outing Plans
Chicago: Polish History at a Relaxed Pace
Start by checking the opening day and tickets for PMA. At the museum, choose three items with your child: a map, a portrait, and a daily object. Talk in Polish about what they were used for. Plan a break for food outside the exhibit. We do not add a mandatory trip across all of Chicago to this plan – one well-experienced point may be enough.
Chicago: Botany on a Less Sunny Day
Check the availability of entry to Garfield Park Conservatory and current rules for your group. Prepare a small language game: find three shapes of leaves and describe them in Polish. Conditions inside differ from the weather outside, so dress in layers. Check which zones and amenities are available that day.
New Jersey: Polish School and a Short Local Matter
If you have a scheduled meeting with the school in Passaic, do not plan a long trip with a strict time at the same time. Leave a buffer for conversation and questions. Before traveling, check if the meeting is at the office address or the class. Afterward, have a short conversation with your child: what was interesting and what they were worried about.
New Jersey: One Outdoor Option, with a Shortening Variant
Choose Liberty State Park or Paterson Great Falls, not both automatically in one day. Establish a starting point and a place to return to the car or transportation. Prepare a shortened variant for wind, rain, or fatigue. Check announcements and restroom availability; consider parking costs separately from any potential entrance fee.
Budget and Travel Without Illusory Savings
| Item | What to Determine Before Leaving |
|---|---|
| Entry | Price for adults, children, residents, and selected events |
| Travel | Fuel, tolls, or tickets for the whole family |
| Parking | Correct parking, rate, and allowable time |
| Food | Rules for bringing in and place for a break |
| Accessibility | Stroller, step-free entry, restrooms, sensory needs |
| Reserve | Change of plans and emergency return |
We do not provide a fixed travel time between points: traffic, hour, and mode of transport significantly change it. Open current navigation before leaving and verify the schedule of the transport operator. Free entry does not mean that the entire family outing will be without costs.
How to Check Events and Updates
Start with the official calendar of the institution, not an old entry in a group. Check the year, date, address, organizer, registration conditions, and payment method. An event with the same name from the previous year does not confirm this year's date. We do not assign old festivals to the upcoming weekend without a current announcement.
To search for other schools, the list on the website of Polish institutions in the USA and the websites of educational organizations are helpful. The catalog is a starting point: confirm hours and location with the school. On informacja.com, also check events and the existing guide to Polish Saturday schools.
FAQ
Are these all Polish places in these regions?
No. This is a selected, verified starting set. Chicago and all of New Jersey have many more institutions.
Is the school address always the lesson address?
No. It may be a contact address or office. Confirm the location of a specific group before traveling.
Can a child be enrolled in October?
It depends on available spots and the institution's rules. The announced enrollment for the school year does not guarantee continuous recruitment.
Are all selected attractions free?
No. PMA publishes ticket prices, Garfield Park Conservatory has rules depending on the visit category, and parking or separate attractions may incur additional costs.
Do the listed Mass times apply to holidays?
Do not assume that. Confirm the current bulletin and the schedule for a specific holiday.
Are these places personally verified by the editorial team?
We have verified published sources. We do not present this as a visit report or recommendation based on personal use.
