♟️ Chess
← All gamesPlay chess online for free — the classic royal game against the computer with full rules: castling, en passant, pawn promotion, checkmate, stalemate and draws (50-move rule, threefold repetition, insufficient material). Tap a piece to highlight its legal moves, then tap a target square to play. Choose from three difficulty levels — easy, medium and hard — each with its own fastest-checkmate leaderboard. You play white by default, but one button lets you switch to black (the board flips). Game notation, captured pieces and move undo help you learn. Your best result is saved in your browser.
How to play
- Tap (or click) one of your pieces — its legal moves light up on the board. Tap a highlighted square to make the move. Tapping another piece changes the selection.
- Full chess rules apply: castling (short and long), en passant, and pawn promotion — when a pawn reaches the last rank you choose a queen, rook, bishop or knight.
- A game ends with checkmate, stalemate or a draw: by the 50-move rule, threefold repetition of the position, or insufficient mating material.
- Pick a difficulty: easy, medium or hard. Each level has its own fastest-checkmate leaderboard (fewer moves is better).
- You play white by default. The "Play black" button flips the board and the computer makes the first move.
- The "Undo" button takes back a pair of moves (yours and the computer's reply). The game notation and captured pieces are shown below the board.
