Happy 4th of July from the PMA!
Happy 4th of July from the PMA! The Polish Museum of America celebrates the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence with a small exhibition highlighting the role of Polish immigrants and Polish Americans in U.S. history and civic life.
Event Description
This Fourth of July, the Polish Museum of America reflects on a milestone year in the history of the United States - the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence (1776–2026). Independence Day offers an opportunity to consider the many layers of history that have shaped this country: its founding ideals, its continued evolution, and the individuals and communities who, through different eras and from many places, contributed to its development. As part of this anniversary year, we invite you to visit our small exhibition: "America250 – Polish Contributions to the United States of America." The display highlights selected objects and stories from our collections illustrating the role of Polish immigrants and Polish Americans in U.S. history and civic life. Within the exhibition, visitors will encounter figures such as Tadeusz Kościuszko and Kazimierz Pułaski, associated with the American Revolutionary War, Civil War memorabilia with a particular focus on Włodzimierz Krzyżanowski, a series of interpretive panels addressing topics like the early presence of Poles in Jamestown and the first Polish settlement in the United States at Panna Maria, Texas, as well as archival documents, including letters from our collections dating to the Revolutionary War period. This presentation is offered in the spirit of reflection and education - recognizing that history is shaped by many voices and experiences across time.
