Event Description

The Polish Museum of America held a lecture by Stefan Władysiuk of the Library at the Polish Institute in Montreal on July 9, titled 'Arthur Szyk as a Spokesman for Polish-American Friendship'. The event was part of the commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States and aimed to showcase and promote the rich collections of two sister institutions - the Polish Library in Montreal and the Polish Museum of America. Stefan Władysiuk presented a remarkable gift to the Polish Museum of America: a limited-edition facsimile of the Statute of Kalisz of Duke Bolesław the Pious (1264), illuminated by Arthur Szyk between 1926 and 1928. Carolyn Lickerman, Arthur Szyk's cousin, shared personal memories with the audience. The lecture was presented as part of the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage's Support for Polish Archives, Libraries and Museums Abroad (WABiM) program.
