About the building

George E. Edgecomb Courthouse is the main courthouse for the 13th Judicial Circuit of Florida, located in downtown Tampa. It handles most family and civil cases in Hillsborough County. The 332,000 square feet building was opened in January 2004 and cost $42.9 million to construct.

History

The building is named after George E. Edgecomb, the first African American judge of Hillsborough County. A bust of Edgecomb is located in the lobby, and a statue of Lady Justice stands outside the entrance.
